Background

My office is located in a historic home located in old downtown Plano, Tx.  People seem to like the feel of the old home and the atmosphere that is created. Following is the back story of the building.

The historic home was built in 1894 by Fred Schimelpfenig and his wife, Louise Ernestine Rammers Schimelpfenig, two of the early Plano settlers moving here in 1878. Fred was active in church and civic circles and was mayor of Plano from 1902-1908, the owner/operator of a lumber company and a dry goods store. Louise was also active in church work as well as the temperance movement. She operated the first Plano lending library out of her home by lending books to girls in the community. In 1980, both Fred and Louise were honored by the city of Plano: Schimelpfenig Middle School was built and named for Fred, and the L. E. R. Schimelpfenig Public Library was named for Louise.
